Household Water Leaks

Many homes in the O’Fallon area are reaching the age when the water line from the meter to the house needs to be replaced.  Water loss from the smallest of holes in a service line can be astounding.  A hole the size of a pinhead results in a loss of 120 gallons per day and 3,600 gallons per month.  A hole 1/64 of an inch in diameter results in a loss of 360 gallons per day and 10,800 gallons per month.  A hole 1/32 of an inch in diameter results in a loss of 693 gallons per day and 20,790 gallons per month.  Often these leaks are not noticeable above ground.

When there’s a leak, you pay for water you never use.  We urge you to take time to check for leaks in plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems, and other water-using equipment.  Fixing leaky fixtures saves dollars!

Check toilets, faucets, pipes, and other fixtures for possible leaks.  Also, check your lawn area for wet spots or areas where the grass seems greener than the rest of the lawn.  This could indicate a leaking ground pipe.

Please call a plumber and have the leak repaired as soon as possible.  Remember, water leaks mean money down the drain!
