 During the week of December 14, 2009, Waste Management (WM) changed some of their pick-up schedules. Every household with WM services should
have already received a letter and a post card confirming the day of their pick-up. Some households will not be affected and their pick-up day will remain unchanged. To view a map of the new route schedule, please visit www.ofallon.org and click on the WM Route link in the center of our homepage.
Since the inception of the contract, we have experienced significant growth in Wards 1 and 7. As WM set up new accounts in those wards, their original routing plan became inefficient. The new plan will assist us in keeping rates as low as possible and will provide better service to our residents. Trash, yard waste and optional recycling will now be picked up on the same day in all areas of the City.
One of the biggest benefits of the routing change is that WM will place a rear load truck in the alleys. The truck will now make one pass down the alley and throw items into the truck from both sides. Prior to the change, the trucks were making two passes down each alley, creating tremendous wear and tear on our alleys and culverts. The estimated annual cost savings to the City is $30,000 in alley repair costs.
