Thanks to funding by the Friends of the O’Fallon Public Library, O’Fallon library cardholders now have access to downloadable audiobooks.

The Library will be part of ListenIllinois, a consortium of libraries throughout the state which will make over 4,300 titles available to library cardholders.  ListenIllinois will provide access to the holdings of three companies:  Audible.com, Recorded Books, and OverDrive.

These titles can be downloaded onto your MP3 players or players owned by the library and checked out on your library card.  Many of the titles can be accessed off-site from anywhere that offers internet connections.  This is a great program for those on vacation or traveling for business.

Each company works slightly different, but all information is available on the library’s web site at www.ofallonlibrary.org.

The Scott/MidAmerica Leadership Council is a new organization that has formed over the past several months.  It’s Executive Board is made up of the Mayors representing the communities that surround Scott Air Force Base (Mayor Gary Graham, O’Fallon; Mayor Gerald Daugherty, Mascoutah; Mayor James Vernier, Shiloh; and Mayor Scott Abner, Lebanon) as well as Woody Gray from Mascoutah.

SMALC’s mission is to foster a regional economic development partnership between Scott Air Force Base (SAFB), MidAmerica St. Louis Airport and the Southwestern Illinois Region by forging public/private relationships that will ensure the future of Scott Air Force Base.

Collectively, the organization is a regional voice at the county, state, and federal level of government and is committed to responsible economic development in the region, including the protection of SAFB from encroachment and the fostering of a Foreign Trade Zone at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport.

Membership in the organization is open to all companies, organizations and individuals.  Membership levels range from $500 to $2,000.  Quarterly economic forums will be held that will provide members with the opportunity to network with Scott Air Force Base leaders, the four Mayors who serve on the SMALC Executive Board, and county, state and federal officials.  If you would like to join SMALC, contact Pam Funk at O’Fallon City Hall at 624-4500, ext. 9-1112.

The SMALC Executive Board hosted a going away breakfast in May for Col. Raymond Rottman, previous Wing Commander at SAFB.
