Traffic Safety Unit Webpage
The O’Fallon Police Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) has launched a brand new webpage on the City’s website. The page contains a description of the unit as well as an explanation of the types of activities for which they are responsible. More importantly, the page also contains a link for an online citizen inquiry form called the TSU Citizen’s Report Form.
The form is designed to make it easy for citizens to report traffic related situations to the TSU. For example, if you know the location of a dangerous intersection or an intersection where stop signs are frequently ignored, you can submit the information to the TSU via the new form. You may remain anonymous if you wish. However, we prefer that you fill out the contact information section so that we can contact you for additional information should the need arise.
To access the new form, go to the City’s website at www.ofallon.org and click on the E-Government button. Under Police Department, click on the Traffic Safety Unit Report Form link. Fill out the form and then click send. The completed form will go directly to Sgt. Berry who is the coordinator of the unit. He will review the inquiries, and the unit will take appropriate action when warranted.

The TSU was formed in 2000 to provide a proactive approach to traffic safety in the City. Initially, two patrol officers were assigned to the unit. Since that time, the unit has grown to four patrol officers and a patrol sergeant who serves as the coordinator.
It’s no secret that the City’s population has grown tremendously since 2000. Unfortunately, as more people move into our City, motor vehicle traffic increases and inevitably, more traffic accidents occur.
TSU’s ultimate goal is the reduction of traffic accidents. To meet this goal the unit conducts traffic crash investigations, impaired driving (DUI), speeding violation, and occupant restraint violation enforcements.
In addition to enforcement activities, the unit also conducts traffic related studies and public information campaigns. We work very diligently to educate our citizens about safe driving habits and prefer for motorists to voluntarily comply with traffic safety laws. We would much rather prevent an accident, than find it necessary to write someone a ticket.
We welcome citizen involvement in helping us to keep motorists within our City safe, and encourage you to use the new online website form to report any traffic related situations of which you may be aware.
Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System
The O’Fallon Police Department has joined the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS). This system connects law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Illinois in times of disaster. The ILEAS program provides for a one call, centralized dispatch response to all member agencies in 11 regions throughout the state. In addition to this mutual aid program, ILEAS has facilitated the distribution of protective respirator masks and other emergency equipment to member agencies.
The ILEAS program is funded through federal grant monies targeting man-made and natural disasters. All aspects of disaster preparedness are addressed in this program. Foreseeable possibilities are planned for which include biological, radiological, chemical and other terrorist-related events, railroad train derailments, tornadoes, floods, and aircraft crashes.
ILEAS has developed Weapons of Mass Destruction Special Response Teams (WMDSRT) that are specifically trained and equipped to respond to particularly hazardous events. The O’Fallon Police Department has an officer assigned to the Region 8 WMDSRT. Region 8 encompasses ten counties in Southwestern Illinois. Additional information on the ILEAS program can be found at www.ILEAS.org.
