Permit Information Handouts
The Planning and Zoning Department has recently published a series of informational handouts designed to assist our residents on building related issues. They include basic
requirements for various home construction projects, such as swimming pool installation, decks, fences, accessory structures, and basement finishes. We have attempted to answer the most frequently asked questions regarding these projects and have provided important details and specifications that a homeowner or contractor may need for their project.
The handouts and information sheets are available at the Planning and Zoning Department located on the second floor of City Hall, as well as on the City’s website, www.ofallon.org, under the Planning and Zoning Department, Downloadable Documents. If you have any questions about the information on these handouts, or about any permits that may be required for your home improvement project, please call us at 624-4500, x4.
Visual Preference Survey
The Planning and Zoning Department has contracted with Arcturis, a local consulting firm, to conduct a community-wide visual preference survey (VPS). The goal of the VPS is to establish a community-wide consensus on architecture, open space, and neighborhood design standards for new residential developments. Arcturis will be coordinating citizen input through a series of workshops and on-line participation where O’Fallon residents can share their views and preferences on these community design issues. The results of the survey effort will be incorporated into a report that will be provided to the Mayor and City Council with the goal of drafting architectural, open space, and neighborhood design standards for the community. Input by the City’s residents will be vital to the success of this effort, and an
interactive survey will be posted on the City’s web site for residents interested in participating in the process. The interactive VPS can be accessed and completed through the City’s home page at www.ofallon.org. Following completion of the survey, a report of the findings and recommendations for future action will be posted on the City’s web site. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact our office at 624-4500, ext. 4.
2006 Comprehensive Plan Update
The 2006 Update to the City’s Comprehensive Plan was approved on Second Reading by the City Council and immediately went into effect on
Monday, August 21, 2006. The purpose of the Comprehensive Plan is to provide the City with a road map for the future by identifying policies and goals for future land use decisions, growth and development patterns, and opportunities for improving the community for the citizens of O’Fallon. An update was necessary to reflect the rapid growth the city is experiencing. The update incorporates, by reference, several other existing, related plans, such as the 2001 Environmental/Landscape Framework Plan, the Bicycle and Park Master Plans, the Northwest Quadrant Traffic Study, and the latest water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer capital facility plans. The entire plan can be accessed on the City’s web site at http://www.ofallon.org/Public_Documents/OFallonIL_PlanZoning/compplan/index. Hard copies of the Comprehensive Plan are available for
viewing and purchase at the Planning & Zoning Department on the second floor in City Hall.
