The construction of the new $7.9 million Public Safety Facility, located at 285 North Seven Hills Road across from the YMCA, was completed in September, on schedule and within budget.
Prior to the facility becoming fully operational, a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Community Open House will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2004 from 1-4 p.m. The ribbon cutting ceremony will occur at 1 p.m.
Bring the entire family out to see our new state-of-the-art facility. Guests will be encouraged to tour the entire building, including the secure areas. Public Safety personnel will be available to explain what types of activities take place in each functional area.
Police Department and Department of Emergency Medical Services employees will begin operations in the new 37,000 square foot facility on October 18th.
The facility includes a state-of-the-art holding facility capable of holding up to 11 arrestees; evidence facilities that will allow the Police Department to maintain evidence for longer periods of time as now required by law; a fully operational Communications Center and Emergency Operations Center designed to handle day-to-day operations and any special needs events such as a natural or man-made disaster; a climate controlled, secure computer equipment room to house the telephone and computer network infrastructure for the entire city; locker rooms expandable up to 120 employees; fitness facilities; and all of the space necessary for the records, patrol, investigations and emergency medical divisions of the department.
Most importantly, the new building features a Community Room that can be used as a single meeting space or divided in half for two functions. These full feature rooms will include all of the equipment necessary for a wide variety of meetings or training sessions. In addition, the Community Room could be used to provide shelter to a large group of people should the need arise.
