Tips from your O'Fallon Police Department

Summer Safety
Summer has arrived and we wish all of our citizens an enjoyable and safe summer. As a reminder, we would like to pass on a few safety tips:
While walking, running or jogging, wear brightly colored clothes and attempt to remain on the sidewalk and cross at crosswalks. |
When bicycling, wear brightly colored clothes, ride with the flow of traffic, use hand signals, obey all traffic regulatory signs and always wear a helmet. |
If your children are left home alone during the day, please provide them with all parental/guardian work contact numbers, emergency numbers (police, fire, EMS, poison control, 9-1-1) and verify they know how to react to situations such as fires and severe storms. |
Some children may have extreme amounts of free time to surf the net; make sure your family computer is equipped with the necessary software or parental controls to prevent hackers and the children’s access to certain websites and chat rooms where they can become prey to child molesters. DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO POST PHOTOS OR PERSONAL INFORMATION ON THE WEB WITHOUT YOUR APPROVAL. |
If you leave your home unattended for a fabulous, fun-filled vacation, turn on the exterior lights, leave a few interior lights on and turn on a television or radio with low volume. Have a relative or neighbor collect your newspapers and mail and ask them to park a car in your driveway to make it look as though there is activity at your house. |
Remind your children who are of driving age (16-18), that all occupants under 18 in the vehicle they are driving must wear a seat belt regardless of where they are sitting. |
The curfew ordinance of the City of O’Fallon applies to anyone 16 years of age or younger. The curfew times are: |
-Sunday through Thursday 11 p.m. -Friday and Saturday 12 a.m. (midnight) |
