From the Mayor July 2005

122104_21112_0.png. . . “Traditional Values,
Progressive Thinking”

As I begin my third term as Mayor and look back over the past eight years, I’m amazed at the number of major projects the City has completed in such a short period of time.  While all of these projects have been important to our community, two of them have proven to be the force that has driven economic development for our entire region.  The building of Exit 16 at Green Mount Road and the construction of Central Park Drive have provided the catalyst for new businesses to locate in our great city.  With these new businesses come new jobs and an increase in sales tax revenue, which tremendously helps us to solidify our future.  As the article on the front page of this publication states, sales tax is expected to generate 55% of our income into the General Fund this year, which is why sales tax revenue is so important to us.

A citizen recently asked me what my vision is for the future of O’Fallon.  There are many things that I would like to see accomplished over the next four years, and beyond, that will make the quality of life in O’Fallon even better than it is today.  First and foremost is the addressing of the many water drainage problems in our City.  We are in the process of establishing a Storm Water Action Committee that will be made up of City residents, some of whom are civil engineers and other experts.  Their work will involve studying the list of recommended repairs, prioritizing them, and brainstorming various funding alternatives.

The second thing that I would like to see accomplished is the development of the new Family Sports Park.  This new 200 acre park will serve as a family-oriented facility, providing a broad base of recreational activities for all ages to enjoy.  As our community continues to grow, this park will be critical in providing recreational opportunities for our citizens.

Other things that I would like to see accomplished in our future include building a railroad overpass on the west side of town, a roundabout at State Street and Obernuefemann Road, and a bike trail that would connect with the trails in Madison County.  In addition to these major projects, I also envision the continuance of the street repaving program as well as improvements to Milburn School Road, Simmons Road, Obernuefemann Road, and Lincoln from Summerlin Ridge to Seven Hills Road.

As always, I welcome your suggestions and comments and encourage you to contact me at 624-4500.  It is through your input and dialog on important issues that we will make O’Fallon an even better place to live and work.  It is an honor to serve as your Mayor, and I appreciate being given the opportunity to work for the residents of O’Fallon.
