Looking for Special Census Workers
The City of O’Fallon will be conducting a special census to reflect the increase in the City’s population since the 2000 Census. Our population was certified at 21,910 in 2000 and we estimate that approximately 26,000 people now reside in our City.
The purpose for the special census is to allow the City to capture state revenues such as State Income Tax, Motor Fuel Tax, and State Use Tax, that are based on per capita (population) distributions. It is projected that the City will receive an additional $106.45 per year per resident once the special census is complete, which translates to approximately $425,800 in increased revenue per year to the City.
Beginning around September 19th, census takers will be going door to door at various times of the day and evening to collect a few facts about each member of the household such as their name, household relationship, sex, date of birth and age, Hispanic or Latino origin, and race. The interview will take no more than 7 minutes to complete. All information obtained during the interview will only be used for the purpose of the Special Census. This information is absolutely confidential under the United States Code, Title 13.
Applications are currently being accepted for enumerator positions who will go door to door and collect the information needed for the census. Enumerators will be paid $11.25 per hour and should be able to work at least 20 hours per week until their assignments are completed (approximately six weeks). Applicants must be U.S. citizens, 18 years of age (or at least 16 years of age with a high school diploma), physically able to do considerable walking and climbing stairs, and write legibly. Applicants will be required to pass a written test to show they can follow instructions, do arithmetic, and perform in other areas related to the census. Accepted applicants will be required to go through a consecutive three day training process conducted by the census coordinator. O’Fallon residents are highly encouraged to apply.
Applications are available on the City’s website at www.ofallon.org or at City Hall, 255 S. Lincoln between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please contact Donna Brockmeyer at 624-4500 ext. 1130 if you wish additional information. Application deadline is August 10, 2005.
Warm Weather Projects
The days are getting longer and the temperatures are rising. It’s that time of year again to clean out your garage and attic, time to build that shed to store some of the items that were cleaned out of the garage, and to put in a swimming pool to stay cool after that long day of work.
The Planning and Zoning Department would like to take this opportunity to thank those who are interested and dedicated to keeping our community neat, clean and safe for all of our residents and visitors. As we approach these warm weather projects, please keep in mind that there are regulations to follow:
• |
If you plan on doing any spring cleaning inside or outside of your property, please respect your neighbors and properly dispose of all trash and debris within a reasonable amount of time |
• |
Keeping your grass and weeds cut to a minimum will improve the look of your property and also reduce the risk of attracting unwanted animals |
• |
If you decide to install a swimming pool, in-ground or above ground, a building permit is required, which will include inspections performed by city inspectors |
• |
A building permit and inspections are also required if you plan on building a shed, garage, addition to your home, adding a deck, or anything else that will cover any additional part of your lot |
Following the proper steps while performing your warm weather project will help maintain your property value and protect the public health, safety and welfare of everyone.
Please contact the Building and Zoning Department at 624-4500 ext. 4 or come visit us on the second floor of City Hall if you need a permit or should have any further questions.
