ARTS COMMISSION
Meeting Minutes
April 8, 2008 - 5:00 p.m.
Meeting of the Arts Commission Committee of the City of O’Fallon, held at City Hall, O’Fallon, IL

PRESENT:

Item A.  Missoula Children’s Theater (Caticchio):  Cinderella” April 14-19, 2008 (8th residency).  
à       Audition is at Cavins Monday, April 14 at 4pm.  All rehearsals at OTHS.  
à       Show times at OTHS:  Friday 7pm & Saturday 1pm (instead of two Saturday shows).  
à       Flyers went home with all area students week of March 10 & 17.  
à       Accompanist, videographer, hotel, floral bouquets (donated) are scheduled.  
à       Tickets ordered; some complimentary tix given to social workers, music teachers, scout troop.  
à       First Baptist using their free workshop; & Hinchcliffe using credit toward assembly.  
à       Press release for audition distributed.  Posters being distributed.  Checks ordered.
à       Marquee requests complete.  
à       Ticket Sales volunteers: Monday April 14 (5:45-6:45pm): Grimmer, Jorgensen; Friday April 18 (6:15-7:15): Grimmer, Stawarski; Saturday April 19 (12:15-1:15) Erb, Jorgensen.  
à       Susen McBeth, practicum coordinator for Sign Language Interpreter Training program at SWIC in Belleville, is offering free services of a sign language interpreter at our two shows; Caticchio contacted BAASC, media, area schools to request that administrators forward to appropriate staff such as social workers, nurses, special ed director, OTHS teacher for hearing impaired.

Item B.  Backyard Playhouse Summer Youth Theater Camp (Grimmer).  
à       “Willy Wonka”, 3 weeks at OTHS auditorium.  June 9-27, 2008 (M thru F 1p to 4pm).  
à       Grades 3-12.  $125 per camper.  
à       Script and music are secured.  Crosby and Faulkner meeting about set design.  
à       Nguy is also a coordinator this year.  Students are applying for asst counselor positions.   
à       Free Show will be performed twice.
à       Flyer will go out to schools regarding free shows and camp info.

Item C.  Strange Folk Art Festival (Wiggins): www.strangefolkfestival.com .  
à       2008 event date: Sept 27 & 28.  Times confirmed: Sat 10-5, Sun 11-4.  
à       Craft and Food vendors: $65 ea, no jury fee, no commission.  Taking applications June 1-30, 2008.
à       600 vendors are on email subscription list.  
à       Expected: over 100 vendors and over 5,000 attendees.
à       Wiggins working on national, regional, local sponsors.  Possible DVD to market for sponsors.
à       Wiggins contacting River Front Times for this year’s ad.
à       Wiggins will email sponsor letter for Arts members to forward to acquaintances.  
à       Caticchio submitted list of publications that festival has been submitted/entered, especially online:  Illinois Arts Council/2008 Art Fair Directory, festing.com, Marketplace Magazine, The Grapevine.
à       Reclamation project?  Bring discard material to recycle in exchange for vendor credit.
à       Kids’ project: recycled materials – everyone start saving #6 plastic for Festival!
à       Backyard Playhouse has 2 palm trees and grass that could be used for Festival décor.
à       Craft Congress:  Wiggins will attend this month in San Francisco, spoke on environmental impact of crafting with recyclable materials.  
à       Wiggins invited to speak at Microsoft-sponsored Maker Faire (DIY technology and industrial artwork) on same topic May 3 & 4.

Item D.  Gnome Cut Out (Wiggins).  Dallner will get plywood, Wiggins will sketch figures and let us know summer date(s)/times to come paint this project for Strange Folk Festival.

Item E.  Arts & Parks Foundation (Hutchison).  501(c)3 status official.  Can begin looking for grants.
à       Have some leads on possible donors and corporate sponsors.
à       Need to have architect do conceptual drawings for marketing materials (brochure, presentation)

Item F.   “1% for Public Art”(Hutchison):  No new information.

Item G.   Performing Arts Series (Caticchio, Hutchison).   May have some sources for grant money
