Meeting of the Arts Commission Committee of the City of O’Fallon, held at City Hall, O’Fallon, IL

Item A. Backyard Playhouse Summer Youth Theater Camp (Grimmer).
à “Willy Wonka Junior” camp June 9-27, 2008 (M thru F 1p to 4pm), 3 weeks at OTHS auditorium, grades 3-12. $125 per camper.
à 40 campers enrolled.
à Auditions will occur first two days of camp.
à Free to the public: show will be performed on Friday June 27 at 1:00 and 5:00 at OTHS.
à Flyer went to all schools regarding free shows, camp info.
à 2008 event date: Sept 27 & 28 (Saturday 10-5, Sunday time changed to 10AM to 4PM).
à All Vendors (Craft or Food): $65 per booth, additional cost to split booth.
à Taking Vendor applications through July 6, 2008. Applications went up on the site late due to family emergency. No jury fee. No commission taken by festival. Maximum: 120 vendors. 800 vendors on email subscription list so not much promotion required to make vendors aware.
à Expected: over 100 vendors and over 5,000 attendees.
à Website and graphics have been redesigned.
à Sponsor sheet done---4 catagories:
1. $2,500 Corporate/Craft (limit 2): largest logo, tent space if desired, exclusive sponsor of craft activity if desired, logo goody to put in souvenir bag.
2. $1500 media sponsor: 2nd largest logo
3. $500 commercial sponsor
4. $250 Friend of Folk sponsor
à Parks arranging security 5pm Sat to 9am Sunday, cost covered in higher vendor fee.
à Online marketing: Illinois Arts Council/2008 Art Fair Directory, festing.com, Marketplace Magazine, The Grapevine.
à Fiber Guild is now called Artisan Guild of Southern Illinois: they will again bring Alpaca llamas, wool demo, etc. Knitters Guild giving knitting lessons using donated needles & yarn.
à Kids’ project: need 4 to 5 toaster ovens.
à Wiggins ordering biodegradable pens; colorful totes; will do minimal Festival décor.
à Cups with festival logo: pre-sell at Coffee House and other locations?
Item C. Arts & Parks Foundation (Hutchison).
Hutchison received agreement from architect to do preliminary schematic/conceptual drawings for Rec Plex/Art Plex for use in marketing materials (rendering for brochure, power point presentation) for possible donation. The complex will be costly and will be many years away unless donations are secured.
Item D. “1% for Public Art”(Hutchison): No new information.
Item E. Performing Arts Series (Caticchio, Hutchison). No new information.
Item F. Missoula Children’s Theater (Caticchio): “Princess and the Pea” April 13-19, 2009 is scheduled and will be the 9th residency week for O’Fallon.
Item G. New Business. Gary Olds spoke to the group about Artisan Guild of Southern Illinois, which include fiber art, pottery, blacksmithing, book binding, etc. The organization has about 30 members. He spoke about the arts facility that he runs on base and classes available there. It was suggested that the Arts Commission have a future meeting at this facility, perhaps the Oct or Nov meeting, after Strange Folk Fest.
