ARTS COMMISSION
Meeting Minutes
July 1, 2008 – 1:00 p.m.
Meeting of the Arts Commission Committee of the City of O’Fallon, held at City Hall, O’Fallon, IL

PRESENT:

Item A.  Backyard Playhouse Summer Youth Theater Camp (Grimmer).  “Willy Wonka Junior”, June 9-27, 2008 (M-F 1-4pm), 3 weeks, OTHS, grades 3-12.  $125pp, 40 campers.  Performances on June 27: 1pm show was full, 5pm show about 2/3 full.  Grimmer may put video of last number on Channel 10 or on Parks website.  Next year camp will be 2 weeks.  Camps may alternate: 2 weeks one year, then 3 weeks, etc.  

Item B.  Strange Folk Art Festival (Wiggins): www.strangefolkfestival.com .  
à       2008 event date: Sept 27 & 28 (Saturday 10-5, Sunday 10- 4).  Booth fee: $65 (craft or food).
à       Vendor applications dues this week July 6, 2008.  80 received so far, as of July 1, most come in during last 3 days.  No jury fee.  No commission taken by festival.  Maximum: 120 vendors.  800 vendors on email subscription list so not much promotion required to make vendors aware.  Several posts on Craft Magazine website, Etsy, and other blogs.  
à       Expected: over 100 vendors and over 5,000 attendees.
à       Working on getting sponsors.
1.      $2,500 Corporate/Craft (limit 2)
2.      $1500 media sponsor: 2nd largest logo
3.      $500 commercial sponsor
4.      $250 Friend of Folk sponsor
à       Security 5pm Sat to 9am Sunday, cost covered in higher vendor fee.  Set up by Parks.
à       Publicity: Wiggins arrange RFT ads (print, online); Caticchio find out due date and rates for Craft insert in BND.  Courtney working on My Space, Face Book pages.  Autumn writing articles for Etsy.
à       Music: looking into a stage; Cranky Yellow trying to book bands.
à       Food vendors, Kids Activities: in development.  Also: logo cups, biodegradable bags, pens?

Item C.  Arts & Parks Foundation (Hutchison).  No new information.

Item D. “1% for Public Art”(Hutchison):  No new information.

Item E.  Performing Arts Series (Caticchio, Hutchison).   No new information.

Item F.  Missoula Children’s Theater (Caticchio): Princess & the Pea” April 13-19, 2009 (9th residency)
