Meeting of the Arts Commission Committee of the City of O’Fallon held at Cavins Center, O’Fallon, IL

Item A. Missoula Children’s Theater (Caticchio): Report on Expenses and Revenue for “Princess & the Pea” April 13-19, 2009 (9th residency). Caticchio submitted MCT contract to Parks for Spring 2010 (10th residency): “Jack & the Beanstalk” April 12-17, 2010. Caticchio will request OTHS contract for performance space April 13-17. Parks has reserved Cavins for Audition on April 12, 2010.
Item B. Youth Theater Camp (Hutchison): Since Backyard Playhouse camp will not occur this year, Parks has hired a St Louis group to run a theater-related weeklong camp (9am-3pm).
- Booth Fee: $75 per booth (must be open both days). Apps available June 1; due July 1.
- Sonic Bids: lots of bids (income for fest); Autumn listening to options for free bands. Cooking Demos by Chef Jeff? Hotel room block with Tourism pending. Demo of a “plarn” project still being discussed; Discovery School run this? Cigar lounge has some pro’s and con’s; still being discussed. Mini-golf not happening. Gnomes as decorations: Autumn researching purchase. Recycling by Boy Scouts (in exchange for selling hot dogs): Autumn will utilize pilot program by Craft Mafia used at Webster University campus. Girl Scout cookies will be sold in exchange for the troop running a craft. Sandbox again: yes! O’Fallon & SW Illinois Visitors Guides/info in all bags. Bags: order same quantity as
last year; no shirts. Free buttons (to those taking free survey at Info Booth: “where did you hear about this Festival?”). Vendor “One Inch Pins” may have “Make Your Own Button” booth: info pending. Author Pavilion: Caticchio researching local authors; sales by author only, signings; live blogs on site? Bicyclery: rent & ride?
- Sheep to Shawl demo by Artisans Guild of Southern Illinois; AGSI Guild may invite other Guilds; need extra space for look & 3 spinners; may demo a shawl one day and a scarf the other day; leather crafter; possibly blacksmithing/metal, pottery, photography.
- Upcycle Exchange similar to www.upxchange.com: Vendors put items on wishlist, Festival attendees bring these items to booth to donate and in return receive a coupon (10%?) for vendor wares at Strange Folk. Caticchio contacting OTHS Art Club sponsor Debbie Raboin to see if her students would run this booth for us.
- Wine tasting: Hutchison talking to Sunrise Rotary about a possible fundraiser; other thoughts: St Louis Wine Cats? 20% back to Arts Foundation or Arts Commission?
- Musical Instrument Demo? Jamie Marble may want to coordinate this for Strange Folk Festival.
- Food vendors: all booths can include drinks; BBQ confirmed; Irma’s?
- Promotions: Water bills, RFT. No newspaper ads. Note: Strange Folk Festival voted “best craft festival in St Louis” by River Front Times in 2008.
- Screening? Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY, Art, Craft, and Design is a new book (can be purchased at Amazon) and it is also a documentary….and Strange Folk Festival is mentioned! Autumn met the author at Craft Congress. Documentary is showing throughout U.S. and Canada. Possible free screening at Cavins during Festival as a “St Louis premiere”? “The film explores the burgeoning art community of indie crafters that is fueled by creativity, determination and networking. It~documents a movement or artists, crafters, and designers that recognize a marriage between historical techniques, punk and DIY ethos while being influenced by traditional handiwork,
modern~aesthetics, politics, feminism, and art.” Also show “Re-construct: Eco-Friendly Crafts Made Easy” dvd (trailer: www.reconstructdvd.com)?
- Consumer Product Safety Act is not an issue for our event. Watch groups are influencing changes to the Act.
Item D. Arts & Parks Foundation. “Fools Run” in April raised $1200 for Arts & Parks Foundation. Discussed visions for The Plex in Family Sports Park.
