Meeting Minutes: September 8, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.
Meeting of the Arts Commission Committee of the City of O’Fallon held at Cavins Center, O’Fallon, IL

Item A.  Strange Folk Art Festival (Wiggins): Sept 26-27, 2009 (10am-5pm).  www.strangefolkfestival.com    Admission, parking, wi-fi: all free!   Strange Folk Festival voted “best craft festival in St Louis” by River Front Times in 2008!  125 vendors, new website design is up.

  • Action Items:   Press Release about Authors (Jodi); Press Release about Wine Tasting (Jodi); Signs (Autumn); “cityscape” for Writers Block (Deor, Jodi); Market Basket plants; Map (Autumn); cardboard (MJ); Touch base with Boy Scouts (Jodi); Book Covers from Authors (Autumn); marquees (MJ); Volunteer sign up (Autumn); Autumn assign people to videotape event?  
  • Confirmed Items:   Security (MJ). Bands (Autumn).  Tents (MJ): ordered (20x20 for wine).  Tables (MJ): ordered (tall for wine tasting).  Wine tasting:Admission $5. Hours 1pm to 6pm.  Writers Block: author shifts all filled!  Autumn ordered bags: black, pink.  DIY charms ready.  Merchandise Booth run by Cranky Yellow.  Upcycle Exchange: OTHS Ecology Club confirmed.  Artisans Guild of Southern Illinois demos: “Sheep to Shawl”, pottery, weaving, spinning, dyeing, felting, leatherwork, basketry, papermaking, rug hooking, blacksmithing, photography, alpacas.  Igloo done.  Student Art Display (Brad Keim).  Live blogging: Library laptops. Hula Hoops done.  Cooking Demos confirmed.  Market Basket plants confirmed.  Sandbox again: yes!  Girl Scouts craft; GS cookies. Discovery School: craft (dreamcatchers & puzzles).  Boy Scouts: hot dog booth, recycling.  No car magnets.  No Instrument Petting Zoo.  7 vendors cancelled (will use alternates).  Cat rescue will need permit if they do raffle. “Knit in”?  Mini-Coopers confirmed.  100 bags for giveaways; remaining bags sold for $5.
  • Food vendors: $50 w/out electric, $75 w/electric hookup, $100/kitchen space. All booths can sell drinks.

  • Promotions:  KDHX (88.1) will plug us all week prior to event.  Autumn appeared on St Louis KMOV Channel 4 “Great Day St Louis”!  Autumn & Jodi interviewed for Channel 10’s “City Talk” which airs periodically Aug/Sept.  Water bill flyers out this week.  Flyer in August City water bills.  Facebook had 40,000 “impressions” (people that saw our info), 30+ clicks. Event page, fan page.  St Louis At Home article came out with SF on pg 18-19 of July/Aug issue.  SF will be in September issue of St Louis Magazine.  BND confirmed SF will be in BND Festival Guide.  SF appears in Creo Magazine (national art magazine).  SF article in SW Tourism Times August issue and events calendar.  Possible RFT article?  RFT ad, Twitter, Facebook, craft blogs, mailing list.  Jodi emailed press release to citizens, Fox 2 News “events”/“story ideas”, KMOX, KMOV Great Day, Progress, BND gen mgr, fall calendar listings, Marketplace Magazine, Family Fun, Illinois Arts Council.  KMOV Kristin Cornett (“go green”, live broadcast from SF) never returned calls.  

Item B.  Missoula Children’s Theater (Caticchio): “Jack & the Beanstalk” April 12-17, 2010.  OTHS contract received.
