Item A. Strange Folk Art Festival (Wiggins): Sept 26-27, 2009 (10am-5pm). www.strangefolkfestival.com Admission, parking, wi-fi: all free! Strange Folk Festival voted “best craft festival in St Louis” by River Front Times in 2008! 125 vendors. Event review:
- Security: no issues.
- Upcycle: metric ton of items were recycled.
- Website: fabulous; had over 40,000 page views, visits from 12,000 to 15,000 visitors in September; Autumn is uploading photos.
- Patrons: Only complaint from patrons was “too many bottle caps”; some discussion about volume of music.
- Vendors: One said she did more business in one day (in the rain) at Strange Folk than in the whole 3-day weekend at St Charles Mosaic Festival.
- Author Pavilion got great feedback; authors and library want to participate next year; only complaint was about being too far/disconnected from fest.
- Wine tasting: they bought too much inventory; cans a little strange, DIY wine charms not that popular. Next year, add micro-brewery (?) and have one big tent for Authors, Wine, Micro-brewery?
- Signs are in storage for use next year.
- Artisans Guild may ask to camp overnight next year.
- Can’t use Market Basket next year; maybe sell mums?
- 1000 photos and video were documented by OTHS students.
- Great feedback from bands; KDHX will help us get more bands next year.
- Prices worked well for vendor booths ($75) and food booths ($50 w/o electric, $75 w/electric, $100/kitchen space, all booths can include drinks).
- Little Jimmy’s Italian Ice, Sheridan’s Frozen Custard, and Boy Scouts reported very good sales; Coffee could have done better but couldn’t produce fast enough; no reports from others.
- Cooking Demo and Make Own Button didn’t happen.
- No info on budget yet
Item B. Missoula Children’s Theater (Caticchio): “Jack & the Beanstalk” April 12-17, 2010. MCT contract received.
Item C. Arts & Parks Foundation. Board will meet in January.
Item D. Donation – Sculpture Addition by OTHS Art Club for City’s Thoman Park
- Debbie Raboin, OTHS teacher, reported that Art Club students had raised enough money to buy another sculpture for Thoman Park.
- Students chose area sculptor Donald Horstman, an artist for 30 years, past educator. Students voted on their preference; Debbie is sending photo and info for approval to city officials, and the exact location can be determined within Thoman Park.
- The sculpture that the Art Club would like to gift to the city is called “Spirit”, created in the year 2007, with dimensions of 144”x26” x16”.
- Students will be invited to a City Council Meeting for a public acknowledgement.
- Parks will schedule a time for the sculptor to come for the installation.
- Hutchison will ask Thomans about possible plaques for the sculptures.
