Item A. Missoula Children’s Theater (Caticchio): Report on “Jack & the Beanstalk” April 12-17, 2010. 77 kids participated in audition at Cavins, then 59 kids plus 4 Asst Directors were cast. 284 at performance Fri night; 249 at Sat matinee at Milburn Auditorium. MCT now charges fee if we have a videographer, so parents allowed to videotape from designated areas, or from seated position only, seemed successful. Assembly content weak this year (Evans did a 5th grade workshop, Moye did 2 assemblies). Show confirmed next year is “Pinocchio” April 11-16, 2011; deposit & contract sent in to MCT on 4/19/10. Note that Hett at McKendree is now hosting MCT this summer, as well as SAFB.
Item B. Youth Art Classes & Camps: Jamie Marble (OTHS Show Choir director) offering youth music camp through Parks this summer (all day, one week, all ages, perform 7pm at end of camp week). Also, Autumn Wiggins offering summer art classes (already full!). Youth theater camp may be offered by McKendree grad. Offer scenery design class that could be tied in to a theater camp?
Item C. Strange Folk Art Festival (Wiggins): 2010 dates are Sept 25-26 (10am-6pm). Our 5th year! www.strangefolkfestival.com. Note festival going one hour later than last year. Vendors & patrons can sign up for email updates. Online vendor application available June 1, due July 1 to be juried. If accepted, vendor fee is $75, must be present 10a-6p both days. Admission, parking, wi-fi: all free! Hutchison and Wiggins will work on budget together. Wiggins will use RFT promo packet again. Secured several food vendors ($50 w/out electric, $75 w/electric hookup,
$100/kitchen space). Hutchison will drop off app to Papa Vito’s, also confirm gyros vendor. Caticchio contact Boy Scouts (recycling work to waive food booth fee) and Girl Scouts (run craft to waive food booth fee). Wiggins confirmed Discovery School will run free craft for us; Mothers & More may run free craft. Wiggins wants to look into vertical banners on city poles if donation is available. Wine tasting and Authors Tent will be combined. Discussed Upcycle, Fiber Guild, camping, online task list.
Item D. Arts & Parks Foundation – No new information.
Item E. Sculpture at Thoman Park – Hutchison researching possible plaques that name donors, artist, title of the pieces, etc.
Item F. New Community Theater (Almodovar) – Laurie Almodovar confirmed use of D90 stage space at schools (Carriel & Fulton) with Dr Koehl. She and partner Beth Lundy would start with a youth event such as “Best Christmas Pageant Ever” for fall and then adult play in spring. May present skit at Strange Folk event as well as distribute flyer regarding audition, performance, awareness of this new group, etc. Designing website and thinking of a name! Haunted House at Cavins for a fundraiser as well as awareness activity.
