Item B. Arts & Parks Foundation – No new information.
Item C. Missoula Children’s Theater (Caticchio): “Pinocchio” April 11-16, 2011
Item D. O’Fallon Community Theater (Almodovar) – Laurie will contact us later this month to inform about the official name. Caticchio will email about their troupe doing a skit or showcase or pursuing Wiggin’s idea of roaming improv performances.
Item E. Sculpture at Thoman Park – Hutchison researching possible plaques that name donors, artist, title of the pieces, etc.
Item F. O’Fallon Invitational Art Show (Olds) – A visual arts exhibit open to all area high schools (and jr high?). Olds can obtain plenty of display panels. Obtain sponsors to provide award funding or prizes. Wiggins offered to make logo and website to promote the event. Location: probably Cavins. Target date for first event: January 2012, leaving up display Wednesday through Sunday. Discussed several area art teachers who might be interested in steering student work to the event and/or helping plan or implement event.
Item G. Science Share (Wiggins) – Exploring the idea of a community science fair (or similar to Maker Faire), an “Open Source Design and Technology Fair”. Catagories include robotics, architecture, software, alternative energy, design, etc. Would be for kids age 17 and younger. Partner with schools, see what science teachers suggest and how they could be involved. Would utilize sponsors and judges. Would require local mentors (parent, teacher, older student) to work with kids. Encourage project blogging: not just make something but show how they made it. Projects would be displayed at Cavins (Friday through Monday). Fall 2011? The event would integrate the use of computer and internet. Wiggins created logo and secured website name/domain. Wiggins had a discussion
with District 90 assistant superintendent to get preliminary feedback, and Dr Koehl was receptive to this opportunity that the commission could provide to area students.
