I was surprised to read in the newspaper recently that the children’s book “Walter the Farting Dog” is on the Banned Book List. Apparently, a parent in West Salem, Wisconsin, complained about the book being in the elementary school library because the word “fart” is used 24 times in the short book. It is fascinating that someone would bother to count. It seems to me that if someone does not like a particular book, then they should not read it.
I must disclose that I have a two-year old daughter and “Walter the Farting Dog” was one of the first books given to her by friends of mine (for obvious reasons, hopefully, because of our similar names). Anyhow, my daughter loves the book and I noticed that the book has been on the New York Times bestseller list for quite some time.
Those who may be interested, the O’Fallon Public Library still carries “Walter the Farting Dog” and it is available for check out.
