Another aspect of summer in O’Fallon is the increased activity in our parks. Baseball and softball leagues are in full swing and we run several summer camps for the kids now that they are out of school.
My family is currently taking advantage of Camp Choo Choo, which is a half-day, week-long summer camp designed to introduce toddlers and pre-schoolers to arts and crafts, start smart sports, swimming, structured play and various children's games.
My four-year old daughter Ally had been pre-school during the spring and we decided to give Camp Choo Choo a try. Ally is sometimes a bit timid in new situations, so we wondered whether she would enjoy it. Were we wrong!
In her first two days, Ally has played games, painted with her fingers, and (best of all) got to swim at the O’Fallon Pool. She talks about the camp all evening and cannot wait to go back the next day.
Camp Choo Choo sessions are Monday through Friday but only last one week at a time, so there is an opportunity to register the children for some weeks and not others. We already have put Ally on the list for two more weeks. Each week-long session has a different theme.
The O’Fallon Parks and Recreation Department also has all-day camps for older kids that last all summer (click here for a description of the different camps). The camps are very popular and it is gratifying to see our parks put to such great use. I know Ally appreciates the department’s efforts to have a summer camp just for her!
