Democracy on the Front Lines
City Administrator’s Blog

If you missed my blog entries last week, it was because I was on vacation last week. I went to Florida with my family and we had a blast playing on the beach and swimming in the hotel pool. It was a good week to be gone, city government-wise. July 30 was a fifth Monday in the month, which means there were no City Council or committee meetings.
As expected, things were quiet while I was gone. The organization can function just fine without me around for a week, but I would like to think that I would be needed after a certain period of time;-). We have good department heads and professional employees and they know how to do their jobs.
With the extreme heat this week, we have opened the Public Safety Facility as a cooling center for O’Fallon residents who need a place to go. Also as a result of the heat, tonight’s National Night Out has been modified to include a free pool party.
It is a little too much to ask for children to come to the park in such extreme conditions. Wednesday’s free pool party will go on as scheduled.
On Thursday night, the Finance Committee is holding a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. to go through the City’s recent citizen survey. The survey includes resident opinions on a wide range of City services and the results should be helpful for future policy discussions among the City Council. We will try to get the survey results on the web site soon.
Finally, this weekend is our big Homecoming Festival. It should still be hot, but Homecoming is always a good time with the parades, food, games, music, and carnival rides. See you there!
