As you have probably heard already, there was a massive manhunt yesterday for a Georgia man (Julian Walker) suspected of two murders. More than 50 law enforcement officers were involved that resulted in the suspect committing suicide.
The primary concern was that since the suspect had lost his car, he was desperate and would be inclined to enter a populated area to steal a vehicle and possibly kill someone else. It was a potentially volatile situation that thankfully ended with no harm to any officers or residents.
The O’Fallon Police Department had 14 officers assisting in the search in cooperation with Fairview Heights PD and the State Police. We have agreements in place with area police departments and the State Police to assist in emergencies. O’Fallon Public Safety Director John Betten staffed the command center to coordinate activities between the O’Fallon Police Departments and other departments.
We are fortunate to have professional officers in our region that can work together. The search process went smoothly and O’Fallon citizens should be proud of the performance from our Police Department.
