You may have noticed that our flags are at half mast. We are doing this out of respect for the passing of Collinsville Mayor Stan Schaeffer. Mayor Schaeffer died last night in his sleep from an apparent heart attack. [Click here to read the article.]
Stan Schaeffer was elected Mayor of Collinsville in 1999 after serving eight years on the City Council. He served as Vice President of the Illinois Municipal League Board of Directors as well as a member of the Board of the Illinois Tax Increment Financing Association. He also served on the National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Committee.
On the regional level, Mayor Schaeffer served on the Board of Directors of the East-West Gateway Council of Governments, on the Executive Committee of the Metro Mayors of the St. Louis Region, and on the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Area Regional Response System.
Mayor Schaeffer was a champion of local government and a friend to O’Fallon. We have worked on several cooperative projects with the City of Collinsville over the years, most recently a jurisdictional boundary agreement that will dictate the future growth of our two cities.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mayor Schaeffer’s family and the thousands of people he touched as an educator and community leader.
