This winter has been rough. After several years of mild winters, we were hit hard this year with cold temperatures, ice, and lots of snow. An unfortunate byproduct of a hard winter is potholes.
You may have noticed there are more potholes this year than in previous years. Our Public Works crews have made some patches, but pothole repairs really need warmer weather in order for the asphalt patches to hold together. Please be patient and we will get to them the temperature is more agreeable.
North Lincoln, however, is beyond basic pothole repairs. We had hoped the road would hang on for another year, but the asphalt is literally disintegrating and must be reconstructed immediately.
By mid-June, work will begin on the Phase 3 reconstruction project on North Lincoln Avenue from East Monroe to past East Jackson Street. The project includes the construction of new concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalks and asphalt pavement. Completion could take up to two months, depending on weather.
During the reconstruction, the road will be closed to through traffic. Detour routes will be clearly marked. The reconstruction of North Lincoln has gone well over the last two summers and our intention is for the road to be open when school resumes in August.
