Back in April, I posted some of the statistics on WiFi usage at City facilities. Interesting aspects of the stats showed that while the Family Sports Park had the most unique visitors, Community Park had the most total usage time, and the Public Library the highest download numbers. The WiFi data show more overall usage, but the trends are consistent.
For the past two years, the City has been installing wireless Internet networks throughout O’Fallon. The primary purpose of the networks is to generate connectivity between City facilities. For example, we have a wireless signal between the Family Sports Park and Community Park so the Point-of-Sale concession stands can send their data wirelessly to the main Park Office. Otherwise, we would have to install expensive land lines that limit network usage at the park. We also established wireless links to the Community Park maintenance facility, Memorial Pool, Rotary Nature Center, and Public Library.
A fortunate by-product of the wireless network is it provides the ability to create WiFi public access to those areas. The Family Sports Park and Community Park WiFi hotspots were established last year and Rock Springs and the Public Library hotspots were established this year.
If you have a laptop computer with a WiFi card, all you have to do is turn on the computer to be connected to the City’s WiFi hotspots. The WiFi is free.
