November 16 City Council Meeting Summary

Democracy on the Front Lines
City Administrator’s Blog
Walter Denton

November 19, 2009
Here is a summary of Monday’s City Council meeting agenda items. The items are listed in the order as they appeared in the agenda. Click here to see the full texts of the resolutions, ordinances, and staff reports. As a reminder, resolutions, motions, and special event permits only need to be approved once to become official. Ordinances are required to be approved in two readings (over two meetings) before they become official.

Here are the items that were approved by the City Council:

Resolution for GIS services: For several years, the City has been developing Geographic Information Services (GIS), which provides digital mapping of the City infrastructure and facilities. This resolution is a contract (not to exceed $16,309) with Burns & McDonnell to provide ongoing support to our GIS system.

Resolution for minor subdivision at 1006 Hartman Lane: The applicant wants to subdivide and rezone a 1-acre parcel from a 14 acre property so the owners can sell the parcel to their son as a residence.

Ordinance to approve the Frank Scott Lakeside Apartments (First Reading): Balke Brown Associates has filed an application to build 232 luxury apartment buildings on 20.13 acres of land at 1146 Frank Scott Parkway.

Ordinance to approve the Crocker Development (First Reading): Applicant is requesting to rezone and locate an office at 8670 East Highway 50.

Ordinance to rezone 1006 Hartman Lane (First and Second Reading): This is the resolution that accompanies the above resolution. The ordinance was approved in two readings to accommodate the applicant's financing deadlines.

Motion to approve the Chancellor Retirement Community building elevations: The project was approved earlier this year, but the developer has revised the building plans, which requires City Council approval.

SENT TO COMMITTEE Motion to approve St. Jude’s Christmas Tree Lot: St. Jude’s applied for a permit to sell Christmas trees at the Gator’s Frozen Custard property. The application had not gone through the Community Development Committee prior to its placement on the City Council agenda, so the Council voted to send the application back to committee for review.

ON HOLD Tax Increment Financing Ordinances: Five Second Reading ordinances dealing with the proposed Regency Park Tax Increment Financing District are on hold for legal review.

Now you’re up to date. Next Monday’s committee meetings will be Finance and Administration at 5:30 p.m., Community Development at 6:00 p.m., and Public Works at 7:00 p.m.
