There are two new documents on the City’s web site that should interest those of you who are civically engaged. If you are not civically engaged, then you should be and you need to read these documents anyway.
State of the City
Mayor Graham held his annual breakfast last Thursday and it was well attended as usual. Co-sponsored with the O’Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce, the breakfast is the forum for the mayor’s annual “State of the City” presentation. Mayor Graham’s presentation focused primarily on two subjects: upcoming City projects and the budget problems facing the nation, state, and city.

Northeast Quadrant Traffic Study
Although the economy and development are slow, the City still needs to engage in long-term planning and prepare for future growth. One method to prepare for growth is to conduct traffic studies to determine future roadway networks in undeveloped areas. The best time to identify proposed collector and arterial roadways is before development occurs. These traffic studies are extremely helpful in working with the development community in identifying corridors that will be needed to serve new developing areas. The studies are also critical in keeping future road corridors open, thereby preventing development from blocking future roadway locations. In 2004, the City completed a traffic study for the northwest quadrant of O’Fallon and it was very helpful for the developers building along Milburn School Road.
It is important to note that the locations of the proposed roads on the map are conceptual and are not exact. They are intended to define connections in a general area that will assist both the City and future developers as land develops. The City does not have corridor protection authority and the study does not restrict landowners from making improvements to their property.
