If you are a regular visitor to the City of O’Fallon website, you will know we have had online maps for a while. The City has invested heavily in GIS computer mapping systems and we posted some of our maps on the website back in 2010. Many of our assets and services are geographically based: utilities, property parcels, zoning, City Council wards, etc.
After an extensive upgrade, we just launched a new and improved mapping system on the website. When you go to the home page, you can click on the “City Maps” button on left side of the page (or click here). The web site will automatically open into the O’Fallon map site. There is an array of maps to view and all are searchable for specific addresses:
- Property sales
- Property tax data
- Public Works infrastructure: water, sewer, and stormsewer systems
- Snow routes
- City Council Ward boundaries
- State legislative boundaries
- School district boundaries
- Historical Aerial photos of O’Fallon from various moments in the past
- City Parks
- Fire district boundaries
- Fire hydrant locations
- Storm siren locations
- Zoning boundaries
- Soil conditions
The maps provide a wealth of information and it is fun to look at the different layers, particularly the historical aerial photographs. The maps may be helpful if you are interested in your property tax assessments and may be considering an appeal to your property tax bill. You can view the assessments and sale prices of the homes in your neighborhood. You can also follow the GIS mapping services on Facebook and Twitter.
GIS stands for Geographical Information Systems and is used to place layers of information on digital maps and the City of O’Fallon has been using GIS digital mapping for several years.
