Here is a summary of Monday’s City Council meeting agenda items. The items are listed in the order as they appeared in the agenda. Click here to see the full texts of the resolutions, ordinances, and staff reports. As a reminder, resolutions, motions, and special event permits only need to be approved once to become official. Ordinances are required to be approved in two readings (over two meetings) before they become official.

Here are the items that were approved by the City Council:

Resolution approving an annexation agreement for 8850 East Hwy. 50: Carl and Jean Runkwitz filed a petition to annex their property located at 8850 East Highway 50 (approximately 3.375 acres). The parcel will continue to be zoned A (Agricultural District) upon its annexation to the City of O’Fallon.

Resolution approving two new sidewalks: This resolution approves a contract with Hanks Excavating for two sidewalk projects in the amount of $55,687.40. The first project is constructing a sidewalk from the Behrens Street athletic fields east along State Street and heading north along Seven Hills Road to the Public Safety Facility. The second project is a sidewalk the west side of Simmons Road from the Parcs at Arbor Green Subdivision south to Porter Road and the Family Sports Park.

Resolution approving modifications to the engineering design of the Wastewater Treatment Plant: The City Council previously approved a contract to design improvements to the Wastewater Treatment Plant for the headworks and disinfection system. The contract did not include remote monitoring of the systems, known as SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition), because at the time we did not know what was needed. The additional design work with HMG Engineering will cost $44,800.

Ordinance amending the parking ordinance (First Reading): In 2006, the City Council voted to restrict parking on the east and west sides of Planters Crossing Dr. The action came largely as a result of parking issues brought on by the opening of New Life in Christ Church. The restriction of parking on the east side of Planters Crossing is no longer necessary for the interest of public safety and the current resident has requested that the restriction be lifted.

Ordinance annexing 8.247 acres (Second Reading): OTHS School District 203 has petitioned the City to annex 8.247 acres of land along Oak Hill School Road behind the Braeswood subdivision. Some county residents along Oak Hill School Road (who are on City of O’Fallon water) have inquired about annexation into the City. The school district’s property will cause the City to be contiguous to these residences along Oak Hill School Road.

Ordinance approving Cheddar’s Casual Café at 1180 Central Park Drive (Second Reading): The site will be developed with the new restaurant building, parking lot, and landscaping. The building will be constructed southeast of the existing Gold’s Gym building and across from the proposed Menards.

Ordinance declaring surplus vehicles for sale (Second Reading): Three vehicles have been identified as surplus and ready for sale. All items will be listed on the internet at www.publicsurplus.com and sold to highest bidder.

Special Event Permit for the Homecoming and Heritage Festival: The festival will be October 5-6 and will include a parade, carnival rides, live music, and a car show.

Now you’re up to date. Next week’s committee meetings are on Tuesday, May 29, due to the Memorial Day holiday. Finance and Administration is at 5:00 p.m. and Community Development is at 5:30 p.m. The Public Works Committee meeting is cancelled.
