The Department of Public Safety, Division of Emergency
Medical Services has initiated the community program File of Life.
The File of Life program enables paramedics to obtain a quick medical history whenever the patient is unable to offer one.  

The File of Life packets are kept in a red plastic pocket labeled "FILE OF LIFE", and contains information regarding the patient's name, emergency medical contacts, insurance information, health problems, medications, allergies, dosages, recent surgeries, doctor's name, and health care proxy.  

There are two information pockets that are distributed with the File of Life packages.  The larger packet is held with a magnet so it may be placed on the refrigerator and the smaller packet may be placed in a purse, handbag, or wallet.  

The File of Life packets are available to City of O'Fallon and Rural Fire Protection District residents free of charge.
