Minimum Requirement Sheet
Age: 20-35*
Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or an alien admitted for permanent residency or authorized to work in the U.S.
Driver's License: possess or be able to obtain a valid Illinois drivers license
Education: 64 credit hours toward a Bachelor's degree, -OR- an Associate's degree in law enforcement, -OR- a Bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited jr. college, university or college
Experience in lieu of Education: current certification as a police officer with a municipal, county, state, or federal agency and a minimum of two years full-time experience
Probationary Period: 18 months
Residency: within 3 months after the completion of probationary period
Other: no felony convictions; must pass all examinations as required by the Consortium; background investigation; oral interview; psychological and medical examination; must be able to successfully complete state mandated recruit academy
*Minimum age of 20 if candidate has successfully completed 2 years of law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university, otherwise, minimum age of 21; all applicants must be under 35 years of age unless previously employed as a sworn and certified police officer for a municipality within the State of Illinois for five (5) years or more.
