Rick Reckamp

clip_image04.jpgRick was elected Ward 3 alderman in 1987 and is the longest serving alderman on the Council. He has been the Senior alderman for eight years and, prior to that, former alderman Gerry Cozort and he shared that distinction.

Rick moved to O’Fallon with his parents in 1963.  That same year, he married and subsequently moved to a house in the West End next to Hartman Lane.  He raised four children there until 1978 when he moved with his family to Southview Gardens where he still resides today.  His children attended and graduated from Central School, St. Clare School, Althoff High School and O’Fallon Township High School.  One of his sons continues to reside in O’Fallon today while the other children moved as far away as Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rick worked for 40 years in the construction industry and retired in September 2001 while working for Kane Mechanical Contractors.

He received a BA in English from SIU Edwardsville.  Additionally, he attended BAC (now SWIC) in 1985 for some electronics courses.  Over the last forty years, he took various job related courses in Scaffold Erection, Highway Traffic Control, Laser Operation, Asbestos Abatement, CPR, First Aid, Hazardous Materials (Haz Mat) and Emergency Evacuation Procedures.

Rick has been involved in various community organizations including the Knights of Columbus, O’Fallon Boosters, and O’Fallon Sportsmen’s Club, and has also recently joined Rotary International.  He is a charter member of St. Nicholas Church and has served as a lector at both St. Clare and St. Nicholas for 30 years.

As an alderman, he served as chairman of the Water and Sewer Committee (now Public Works) for 10 years, and served on the Community Development Committee.  He currently serves on the Public Safety Committee and the Finance and Administration Committee.

Rick thinks that the most pressing issue for O’Fallon today is a moving target, changing conditions from decade to decade, and also from year to year.  Over the last few years he says that the two big concerns are Storm Water Mitigation and Traffic Management, both symptoms of the rapid population growth that O’Fallon has experienced.  Rick would also like to see a City program to support and help upgrade the older housing stock, especially around the “president” streets.

In addition to being involved in the fraternal organizations of the community, he has raised a family here, has served as an elected official, both as an alderman and as a precinct committeeman, and feels that he has done his best to make O’Fallon a good place to live.
