Gene McCoskey was elected Alderman, Ward 1 in April of 2009. He and wife Pam moved to O’Fallon in 1994 from Maryland Heights, Missouri, returning to his home state of Illinois. Gene and Pam have two sons Jeff (OTHS 2001) and Jason (OTHS 2005) who attended schools in District 90, OTHS, SWIC and SIUE.
Following Mayor Graham’s election Gene contacted him and offered to serve as a civic volunteer and was appointed Chairman, O’Fallon Urban Forestry Commission. Under his leadership the criteria for designation was accomplished and O’Fallon was awarded Tree City USA recognition from the National Arbor Day Foundation. Gene then served as Vice Chairman and Chairman, of the O’Fallon Park Board and wrote the Strategic Plan for Parks and also chaired the Parks Master Plan Committee. During Gene’s service on the Park Board major improvements were made in Community Park, Rock Springs Park was developed and opened and long term plans were developed for future Parks and green space. Following the merger of the Park Board and the Parks and Environment Committee, Gene was appointed as a Commissioner
on the O’Fallon Planning Commission. Gene served as the Chairman of the Planning Commission prior to running for City Council.
Gene is also involved with other professional, civic, and charitable boards and has a strong commitment to service, planning and getting projects accomplished. He served on the St. Louis Downtown Partnership CID Board, as a Board Member of the Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club in St. Louis, as President of the Executive Board of the International Facility Management Association, St. Louis Chapter and he currently serves as Vice Chairman, Board of Directors, Purina Credit Union and as Chairman, Board of Directors, for the Nestle Purina Child Development Center. Gene and his family are members of the First Baptist Church, O’Fallon.
Gene believes that O’Fallon is the best Community in Southwestern Illinois to live because of the people who live here. “I chose to move to O’Fallon when my children were young and when I could have moved anywhere in the St. Louis area. This is a wonderful place to raise children, provide them with quality education, make wonderful friends and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to serve and give something back.”
