Mary was elected as a Ward 1 Alderman in 2005.
Mary has lived in O'Fallon most of her life. Her parents moved here in 1966, when she was six years old. She graduated from St. Clare Catholic School and O'Fallon Township High School. As a young adult, she spent four years in Kansas and returned to the area with four small children: Adam, Julie, Alex, and John Stroh. She chose O'Fallon, much the same way her parents did, as a good place to raise children. She has lived in O'Fallon ever since she made that decision. Now, she has another title: Grandma!
Mary not only lives in O'Fallon, but she also works in O'Fallon. She has been employed as an applications developer for nine years with Tri-Cor Industries at Eagle Center. She has previously been name "Employee of the Quarter". As an environmentalist, she is proud to commute to work on her bicycle.
Mary earned a Bachelor's of Science degree with a specialization in Management Information Systems in 1996 from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
Mary has previously served the city as a volunteer on the Planning Commission from 1996 - 2005, where she was actively involved in the review of the Comprehensive Plan, Subdivision and Zoning Ordinances. As a parent, she volunteered wherever she could at St. Clare School, including the school board for two years; one year as an officer. During her tenure on the St. Clare School board, she was a member of the initial long term/strategic plan committee. She has also volunteered as a basketball and volleyball coach for the O'Fallon Booster Club.
As a member of the Public Safety committee for the City Council, Ms. Schmidt will pursue traffic control standards and hopes to find ways the police department will be perceived more positively by the youth of O'Fallon. As a member of that council, she will explore ways to regulate growth so that impacted public services (city and otherwise) have the same opportunity for growth. Her ultimate goal is that O'Fallon remains the first choice for her children --- and their generation --- to raise their own children.
Mary says that she knows well, and cares a great deal about O’Fallon and its needs in order to continue to be an outstanding community.
