Storm Debris Dump Site - August 13, 2006

A Weekly Note from Mayor Gary L. Graham
Traditional Values, Progressive Thinking

Due to the severity of the storm that moved through the area on July 21st, the City of O’Fallon has established a storm debris dump site for residents who wish to haul their own storm debris.  The site is located at the new Community Sports Park, 301 Obernuefemann Road.  Residents should follow the signs posted on State Street and Obernuefemann Road.  The site will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will be available through Tuesday, August 15th.  Park Rangers and Community Service Officers will man the site and residents will be required to provide proof of O’Fallon residency.  Residents will be responsible for unloading their debris.  The only debris that will be accepted at the site is tree limbs and other tree parts.  No commercial tree debris will be accepted.  Users of the site should enter the park near the Holland Construction Services trailer on the east side of the park off Obernuefemann Road.

The City is also assisting residents who are elderly, disabled or experiencing a hardship with storm debris clean-up.  Military families, who have a spouse that is TDY, also qualify.  Residents who qualify should send an email message to engineers@ofallon.org or call City Hall at 624-4500, extension 3 and ask to be placed on a list.  If you have already called, it’s not necessary to call again.  Hardship cases are still required to place trees at the curb.  Workers will not come onto your property.  The clean-up effort is expected to take three to six weeks to complete.

All other residents are reminded that Waste Management will pick up storm debris as long as tree limbs and branches are less than six inches in diameter and tied in bundles no larger than four feet long and 24 inches in diameter.  The bundles can weigh no more than 60 pounds.  Residents may also place logs that are larger than six inches in diameter at the curb, as long as they do not weigh more than 60 pounds.

We ask for residents’ cooperation and patience as everyone cleans up after this major storm.  The strong working relationship between City Hall and the residents we serve is yet another example of why O’Fallon is such a great community in which to live.
