Street Projects Begin - June 3, 2007

A Weekly Note from Mayor Gary L. Graham
Traditional Values, Progressive Thinking

Spring and summer is the time of the year when road construction projects in our region of the United States are launched.  Weather conditions are typically good and the window of opportunity to complete a project is approximately five months.

As part of our Capital Improvements Plan, we will once again be improving streets throughout our community this spring and summer.  The street improvements will consist of road milling, application of prime and sand, and asphalt resurfacing.  The streets scheduled for improvement and the timeframe (subject to change depending on the weather or equipment failures) for each appear below:
May 29 - June 1:  Sherryl Court, Pheasant Run, East and West Brittany Lane, Arrowhead, Jennifer, Nicole and Robert
June 4 – June 8:  Hilgard, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, & Seventh Streets and North Lincoln
June 11 – June 15:  Country Oaks, Kensington, Oak Hollow, Oak Meadow, Oak Ridge, Oak Creek, and Royal Oak
June 18 – June 22:  Thornbury Place, Victoria, Coachlight, Ciswick, Aladar, Amy, Loblolly, Shingle Pine, Rutherford Ridge

Residents are asked to please park their vehicles in locations other than the street until the asphalt resurfacing work is complete.  During the overlay project, the ability to use the section of roadway under construction will be temporarily limited. Please be aware that passage along this section may be impossible at times, but trash pick-up services, etc. will not be disrupted and normal access will be allowed during non-working hours.  Extra caution should be taken during this time to avoid damaging the road and/or your vehicle.  Fresh oil will be present at times.

Work will also begin this week on the Phase 2 reconstruction of North Lincoln Avenue from Jefferson to East Monroe.  The project includes the construction of new concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalks and asphalt pavement.  Completion could take up to two months, dependent on weather. During the reconstruction, the road will be completely closed to through traffic.

We kindly ask our residents to be patient and considerate during these much-needed improvement projects.  To the maximum extent possible, we are trying to minimize the inconvenience caused by the project and are dedicated to making the situation as painless as possible.  However, it is impossible to completely eliminate all the frustration that drivers and citizens experience, and we ask for your understanding and patience.

For current updates on these projects, please tune to Charter Cable Channel 10 or visit the City’s website at www.ofallon.org.  Specific questions or comments should be directed to the O’Fallon Engineering Department at 624-4500, Ext. 3.

I am confident that you will continue to be pleased with the City’s capital improvements, and agree that this is another example of why O’Fallon is such a great community in which to live.
