A Weekly Note from Mayor Gary L. Graham
“Traditional Values, Progressive Thinking”
The stormwater utility referendum has been removed from the February 5 ballot. Illinois law prohibits the City from spending tax payer dollars on campaign materials used to promote the passage of a ballot question. The short timeframe does not allow ample time for the City to legally provide the pros and cons to the voters in O’Fallon so that you can make an informed decision.
The City Council and I are committed to providing the voters in O’Fallon with all the facts regarding this complicated referendum question so that you can make an informed decision at the polls. Unfortunately, that just was not possible within the short timeframe before the election.
City staff will focus on the core stormwater needs in O’Fallon and propose new options for the City Council to consider. If the City Council decides to place the stormwater utility referendum back on the ballot, the next opportunity to do so will be on the November 4, 2008 ballot.
Stormwater drainage in our City is a complicated issue but by working together, we can make certain that the quality of life in our great City is maintained. The strong working relationship between City Hall and the residents we serve is yet another example of why O’Fallon is such a great community in which to live. Happy holidays to everyone, and it is my prayer that 2008 is a wonderful year for you and your loved ones.
