Road Construction Projects - Apr. 9, 2008

A Weekly Note from Mayor Gary L. Graham
Traditional Values, Progressive Thinking
With warmer weather just around the corner, the City is busy preparing for the beginning of the construction season.  Two very important road construction projects will occur this spring and summer.

The first project is the State Street and Obernuefemann Road roundabout.  Construction will begin on or about April 14.  Once construction begins, motorists should be cautious when approaching the intersection.  While the intersection is to remain open during the construction period, there may be times when it is temporarily closed in order to complete segments of the project.  To avoid delays, residents are strongly encouraged to choose an alternate route to their destination.  The anticipated completion date for the project is July 31, dependent on weather.

Because the roundabout will be a new traffic feature in O’Fallon, motorists may be wondering how they will safely navigate through it.  A wealth of information is available on the City’s web site at http://www.ofallon.org/Public_Documents/OFallonIL_PublicWorks/Traffic_Topics/trafficindex, including a great instructional video.  Please be patient when viewing the video on the web site as it is a very large file and may take some time to download.  The video also began airing earlier this month on O’Fallon’s Charter Channel 10.

The second project is the Phase 3 reconstruction project on North Lincoln Avenue from East Monroe to past East Jackson Street.  This project will begin in mid-June and includes the construction of new concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalks and asphalt pavement.  Completion could take up to two months, dependent on weather.  During the reconstruction, the road will be closed to through traffic.  Detour routes will be clearly marked.

This project was originally scheduled for completion during the summer of 2009, but due to freeze-thaw cycles this past winter being unexpectedly damaging to the pavement, the project was moved forward to this summer.

We kindly ask our residents to be patient and considerate during the construction of these much-needed projects.  To the maximum extent possible, we are trying to minimize the inconvenience caused by the projects and are dedicated to making the situation as painless as possible.  However, it is impossible to completely eliminate all the frustration that drivers and citizen’s experience, and we ask for your understanding and patience.

Questions or comments about either project should be directed to the O’Fallon Engineering Group at 624-4500, Ext. 3.
I believe that you will be pleased with these two road improvements and will find that getting around town will be much easier once they are complete.  The strong working relationship between City Hall and the residents we serve is yet another example of why O’Fallon is such a great community in which to live.
