A Weekly Note from Mayor Gary L. Graham
“Traditional Values, Progressive Thinking”
The beginning of the New Year is a perfect time for us to reflect back on 2009 and to determine our new year’s resolutions for 2010. The City of O’Fallon Parks and Recreation Department is offering numerous programs and activities throughout 2010 that will assist you and your family in keeping those resolutions.
If you resolution is to learn a new skill such as the art of making stained glass, bowling, or ballroom and swing dance, the Parks and Recreation Department is your ticket to obtaining those skills. If it is relaxation that you are in search of, Tai Chi is offered.

Story Hour (for all ages) is offered every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and Miss Syndy’s Storytime School for 3-5 year olds is held on Monday mornings at 9:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. The next session is called “Snow” and begins January 25 for six weeks.
Three different lapsit storytimes (for parent or caregiver and baby) are each offered twice a month. Babygarten is for ages 0-12 months, Tween the Garden is for 12-24 months, and Beyond the Garten is for ages 24-36 months.
For the adults in your household, computer classes are offered every month and a book discussion group meets the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. The Library also has a collection of online resources available to help you with your job search. Eight computers in the training lab are available for those seeking employment. In addition to all of these wonderful resources, the library also offers a Sunday afternoon movie each month.
On January 16 at 2 p.m., local author A.J. Brower will be talking about the inspiration for her new book A Family to Die for…..”History to Mystery, or How a Quiet, Respectable Interest in Genealogy and History Turned into Murder in St. Clair County.”
I am certain that you and your family will find our Parks and Library programs both educational and very enjoyable. The opportunity to participate in high quality and fun leisure activities such as these is yet another example of why O’Fallon is such a great community in which to live.
