A Weekly Note from Mayor Gary L. Graham
“Traditional Values, Progressive Thinking”
Illinois Treasurer’s Office staff from the Cash Dash program will be at O’Fallon City Hall in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Representative Eddie L. Jackson, Sr., who is sponsoring the event, will also be available from approximately 9 to 10 a.m.
The Cash Dash program is a service by the State Treasurer’s Office that allows Illinois residents to claim any property or money that is being held by the Treasurers Office. In Illinois, banks and businesses are required to turn over unclaimed property to the treasurer if they are unable to locate the rightful owner after five years, including:
- Abandoned savings and checking accounts or safe deposit boxes
- Stocks, bonds and mutual funds
- Paid life insurance policies
- Items mistakenly mailed to a former address or returned
- Unclaimed property or assets of a deceased relative of whom you are the heir
Claim forms and instructions on how to fill them out will be available at the event. For more information about the Cash Dash program, visit www.treasurer.il.gov and follow the Cash Dash link. You may also call the Treasurer’s hotline at 866.458.7327 or Representative Jackson’s office at 618.875.9950.
This event is a great opportunity for O’Fallon residents to stop by City Hall and have Treasurer’s Office staff check to see if you have any unclaimed assets. Convenient access to these types of events is yet another example of why O’Fallon is such a great community in which to live.
