D.A.R.E. Auto Fest & Swap Meet - May 5, 2010

A Weekly Note from Mayor Gary L. Graham
Traditional Values, Progressive Thinking

I am pleased to announce that the O’Fallon D.A.R.E. Auto Fest and Swap Meet (formerly O’Fallon Boosters Mayfest Auto Fest) will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Community Park, 308 East Fifth Street from noon – 5 p.m., rain or shine.  Admission to the event is free and a wide variety of food and drink will be available for purchase.

If you are an auto buff, this is an event you won’t want to miss.  As many as 52 classes of autos will be on display during the show, so you will be able to see a wide variety makes and models, all in mint condition.  Bring the family out and support the O’Fallon D.A.R.E. Program.

Registration for the auto show begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m., with judging scheduled for noon.  All autos must be in place by noon in order to be judged.  The trophy presentation will be held at 4 p.m.  There will be three trophies in each class, seven special awards, and dash plaques for each entry.  Entry fee is $15 per auto.  For those who wish to only display their auto and not participate in the judging, the entry fee is $10.

Private vendors and part suppliers will display, sell and swap antique auto parts and other articles that are directly and indirectly related to antique autos during the swap meet.  Swap meet set-up begins at 7 a.m.  Booth space is 15’ x 20’ at a cost of $15.
The D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.
Proceeds from the Auto Fest and Swap Meet will be split between the D.A.R.E. Program, and the event organizers, Party Tyme Cruzers Car Club.  In addition, the D.A.R.E. Program will also be selling D.A.R.E. t-shirts, with all the proceeds going towards the purchase of supplies and materials for the program.

For additional information about the auto show, please contact:  Elmer Sterthman at 632-3877 or 628-0476; Steve Wittlich 277-8175 or stevewittlich@yahoo.com; Ty Sterthman at 314-496-4491 or sterth442@sbcglobal.net.  For additional information about the swap meet, please contact Chris Pickus at 476-3603.

Be sure to mark your calendars and plan on attending this fun event in Community Park.  Events such as this help our community to retain our small town feel by bringing citizens together for a fun day of activities.  The strong working relationship between City Hall and the residents we serve is yet another example of why O’Fallon is such a great community in which to live.
