A Weekly Note from Mayor Gary L. Graham
“Traditional Values, Progressive Thinking”
Summer is the time of year when major road construction projects occur. Most cities and contractors plan these projects so that they can be completed and the new roadways opened before the start of school in August. This year, three such projects are underway.
Old Collinsville Road
Work on the reconstruction of Old Collinsville Road between the I-64 Frontage Road (Salem Place) and Milburn School Road began earlier this month. This reconstruction project is expected to take approximately one year to complete. The road will be closed to through traffic in sections, but will remain accessible to the businesses and residents who are located in these areas. The first section to be closed is from the Frontage Road to an area just south of the entrance drive to Andria’s Restaurant. The first section contains a large amount of CSX Railroad reconstruction work as well as road work. A re-opening date for the first section is not available at this time.
O’Fallon-Troy Road
Two sections of O’Fallon-Troy Road are currently closed for reconstruction. The first section begins east of Seven Hills Road (Weil Road) for approximately one-half mile. This section of road closure and reconstruction is in addition to the second area under reconstruction occurring at the end of North Lincoln near the intersection of Bethel and O’Fallon-Troy Roads. The entire project will take more than one year to complete. The project is under the supervision of the St. Clair County Highway Department and the prime contractor is Thiems Construction of Edwardsville.
I.D.O.T. Overlay Project
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will be overlaying roads in the following areas: Highway 50 from Venita Drive (IHOP Restaurant) to Scott-Troy Road in O’Fallon, on Salem Place Drive in Fairview Heights from Illinois Route 159 to Old Collinsville Road, and the Frontage Road from Old Collinsville Road to Venita Drive. Motorists may encounter lane closures while this project is underway. According to IDOT, these closurers are required so crews can safely resurface the roadway. The project is expected to be completed by late fall. The contractor for the project is Christ Brothers Asphalt, Inc. of Lebanon. For more information on this project, please call John Scheibal at IDOT at 346-3353.
We kindly ask our residents and those of Fairview Heights, Caseyville and Collinsville to be patient and considerate during these major road projects. To the maximum extent possible, we will attempt to minimize the inconvenience caused by these projects. We are dedicated to making the situation as painless as possible. However, it is impossible to completely eliminate all the frustration that drivers and citizens will experience. We ask for your understanding and patience.
The strong working relationship between City Hall and the residents we serve is yet another example of why O’Fallon is such a great community in which to live.
