A Weekly Note from Mayor Gary L. Graham
“Traditional Values, Progressive Thinking”
I am pleased to announce that the mapping feature on the City’s web site has been upgraded to include numerous maps such as school district boundaries, electoral boundaries, City Council Ward boundaries, snow routes, address points and parcels, including tax information, as well as many other areas of interest.
These maps are created in our Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software and we are pleased that we are now able to share the maps with our residents via our web site.
The City collected and entered city-related information into the GIS software, which then placed layers of information on digital maps. The beauty of the upgraded feature is that there is more up-to-date data web visitors are able to view and use for their personal purposes and the upgraded feature is very user friendly.
Accessing the maps is easy. Simply go to our home page at www.ofallon.org and click on the City Maps button on the left side of the page. The page that opens will display a number of different maps. If you don’t see the map you would like to view on the first page, simply click the number two at the bottom of the page to open the next page or search by keyword in the search box just above the map gallery.
Once you determine which map you would like to view, simply click on that map. For example, if you click on the address points and parcel map, that map will appear in a new window. At the top of the page, type in the address you are looking for, including O’Fallon IL, and the address will appear just below the search box. Click on the address that appears and the map will go directly to that address. You can zoom in by using the zoom scale on the left side of the page to better see the parcel or address point for which you are looking. The location of the address you typed will appear with a blue dot. Most maps have data associated with individual map layers that can be accessed by clicking on the desired location. The data will appear in a window. If there are multiple map layers with
data you will see an arrow located at the top of data window. Simply click on the arrow to review all data
To follow us on Facebook or Twitter, click on the link at the top of any map page and 'like' or subscribe.
We hope you find this new web site feature helpful. If you have any questions about the maps, please contact Public Works at 624-4500, ext. 5. The strong working relationship between City Hall and the residents we serve is yet another example of why O’Fallon is such a great community in which to live.
