Parks & Recreation Director Mary Jeanne Hutchison received her Bachelor of Science degree from Culver Stockton College in 1980 and her Master of Science degree from Western Illinois University in 1986. She is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) and has over 20 years of cumulative experience in managing, directing, coordinating and teaching park and recreational programs and systems.
Prior to her appointment in O'Fallon, Ms. Hutchison served as the Superintendent of Recreation and the Director of the Rock Island Fitness & Activity Center for 11 years. She was also an Associate Professor of Health, Physical Education and Recreation for 5 years prior to her appointment in Rock Island.
During her career, she has developed capital outlay projects to accommodate long-term planning; served as a liaison to the media and initiated cooperative ventures with the school districts, community and businesses; obtained numerous grants; designed and evaluated program activities, that cater to a broad spectrum of residents; served on the design team for a new 4.2 million aquatic facility; and monitored a 2.2 million expansion project. She is also proficient in managing and maintaining fee-generated facilities, ensuring cost-effectiveness without compromising quality of service.
Ms. Hutchison is a current member of the National Parks and Recreation Association (NPRA), Illinois Parks and Recreation Association (IPRA), and the Optimist Club.
She is the 1997 recipient of the American Red Cross Certificate of Recognition for Extraordinary Personal Action, the 1995 Red Cross Volunteer of the Year Award and the recipient of the Jaycees' Boss of the Year Award in 1995.
Certifications include the American Red Cross Lifeguard, Lifeguard Trainer, Water Safety Instructor, and Water Safety Trainer.
