Patrol Division:
General patrol, crime suppression and initial investigation of reported incidents. Members of the Patrol Division provide a wide variety of services. Patrol is accomplished by marked squad cars, bicycles and on foot. Specific officers in the patrol division are trained as Child Safety Restraint Specialists. These officers hold seminars to instruct motorists on the proper installation and use of child restraint equipment.
Criminal Investigation Division:
Investigation of reported incidents, crime scene processing, interviews and interrogations, evidence processing and case preparation.
Traffic violation enforcement, traffic speed/volume studies and accident crash investigation.
Child Passenger Safety Program:
The O'Fallon PD currently has five officers who are certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the installation of child safety restraints. These officers are available to inspect equipment, assist in installation and offer advice concerning child safety restraints. The K-9 Unit performs drug intervention, tracking, searches for persons, property and evidence. The K-9 Unit provides numerous skill demonstrations at schools and civic functions.
School Resource Officer:
Officers are assigned to the High School, Junior High and Elementary schools to provide interaction with students and involvement in school activities.
D.A.R.E.:
This officer presents the Drug Awareness and Resistance Education program to all elementary schools. D.A.R.E. sponsored dances, ‘lock ins’ and other activities are part of this program.
Community Service Officer:
This program supplements the patrol division by responding to vehicle lock-outs, animal complaints and transporting department vehicles for maintenance.
This program provides crime prevention tips and reporting advise to neighborhood residents which facilitates the neighborhood working as a team. Individual residential home security surveys are also available.
National Night Out:
This program provides crime prevention and safety information. It is held annually at a public facility and includes carnival rides and refreshments along with child identification and safety programs.
Elder Services Officer:
Officers assigned to this program are specifically trained in dealing with issues that affect the elderly citizens of our community. This program provides valuable information and resources to the elderly.
Breakfast With Santa:
This is an annual event held for local children.
This program is an opportunity for high school age students to be exposed to police related activities. Cadets in the Explorer Post assist with traffic direction for parades and other community events. Cadets attend regular meetings which provide detailed information about police service.
Youth Academy:
The youth academy provides a one week training course for eighth and ninth grade students.
