O’Fallon, Illinois – December 10, 2009 – Mayor Gary L. City employees and elected officials raised $20,466 this year, which was a 14.4% increase from 2008 and the most raised by a local government entity in the Illinois Division Campaign. Employee participation in the campaign was 53% and averaged $149.39 per employee. The award also recognized O’Fallon for hosting the 2009 Auxiliary Board Meetings and the creative ways in which campaign coordinators got employees involved in the campaign.
“This award is an honor for the City and our employees,” said Mayor Graham. “We are fortunate to have so many caring employees and elected officials working for us. It is through their generosity that we were once again able to raise significant dollars and provide critical funding to the United Way and the agencies they serve.”
This is the seventh year the City has conducted an active United Way Campaign and the focus again this year was one of education about what United Way is and how donations to the organization are used. The United Way of Greater St. Louis is a local, non-profit organization that serves nine Illinois counties, six Missouri counties and the city of St. Louis. In 2009 the United Way of Greater St. Louis donated over $3.3 million to 23 agencies that provide services in the Metro East. Nearly ninety cents of every dollar donated goes directly to those agencies.
