Girl Scouts Celebrate 98th Anniversary
O’Fallon, Illinois – March 12, 2010--Mayor Gary L. Graham and the City Council have issued a Proclamation declaring March 7 to 13 as Girl Scouts Week. The Proclamation acknowledges the important contributions and commitments the Girl Scouts have made to our community and the development of young people.
“I congratulate the Girl Scouts on their 98th Anniversary! Residents should join in this observance and express their appreciation to the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois, especially our O’Fallon troops,” said Mayor Graham.
The Girl Scouts, serving 3.8 million girls nationwide, is supported by the United Way in Southern Illinois. Through Scouting, more than 50 million girls and women have been encouraged to strive for the highest ideals of courage, confidence and character. The Girl Scouts has supplemented the cultivation of girls to grow strong, gain self-confidence, develop leadership skills and learn lifelong lessons of contributing back to their communities.
“The Girl Scouts have contributed significantly to the development and growth of the O’Fallon community in the past, and they continue to offer incomparable opportunities for the future”, said Mayor Graham. “Please consider supporting the local troops as they continue their community service projects”.
