O’Fallon Police Department Receives
Illinois Special Olympics Gold Medal Fundraising Award
O’Fallon, Illinois – January 19, 2005 – Mayor Gary L. Graham is pleased to announce that the O’Fallon Police Department recently received the Gold Medal Fundraising Award from the Illinois Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee for fundraising efforts conducted during 2004. The award was presented to O’Fallon Police Department Detective James Cavins and Officer Kerry Andrews during the Illinois Chiefs of Police Association Annual Conference.
“It is a great honor for our Police Department to receive the Illinois Special Olympics Gold Medal Fundraising Award. The generosity of our residents and businesses made this award possible, and I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics”, said Mayor Gary L. Graham.
The O’Fallon Police Department raised over $27,000 during 2004 for Special Olympics and was ranked number seven in the State of Illinois as one of the highest fundraising agencies. Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois raised over $1.2 million, ranking the State of Illinois number two, just behind the State of New Jersey.
Special Olympics is an international organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. Special Olympics offer children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round training and competition in 26 Olympic-type summer and winter sports. Special Olympics currently serve almost 1.4 million persons with intellectual disabilities in more than in more than 150 countries. There is never a charge to athletes for participation in Special Olympics.
“The O’Fallon Police Department continues to be a committed supporter of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and has set a fundraising goal of $30,000 for 2005”, said Chief John Betten.
