FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Strange Folk Festival Accepting Vendor Applications for 2007 Event
O’Fallon, Illinois – June 8, 2007 – Mayor Graham and the O’Fallon Arts Commission are pleased to announce that the Strange Folk Arts and Crafts Festival will be held in O’Fallon Community Park on Saturday, September 22, 2007 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Artists and crafters will have an opportunity to sell their wares at a venue that aims to be a hip departure from the typical “country” craft fair. Do you D.I.Y. sewn items, knitting, artwork, crochet, jewelry, paper goods, soap, silk screening, upcycle, zines or something really cool we haven't even thought of yet? Then you might just be strange enough to vend at the metro east's swellest indie craft show!
Artists must apply on-line at www.strangefolkfestival.com by June 30, 2007. There is no fee to apply, and notification of jury results will be released on July 6th. We are once again offering tent spaces or sheltered tables, and if accepted, the vendor fee for each space is $40.
Last year we hosted over 80 amazing indie artists selling everything from organic soaps to masterfully crafted corsets, original artwork, adorable handmade purses, hand-bound books, and so much more! What sets us apart from other crafts shows? Our counter-culture aesthetics and that we absolutely do not allow importers, antiques dealers, or companies that practice far-removed mass production. You also won't see any ducks in bonnets, apple baskets or teddy bear knick knacks...unless they are pirate teddy bears.
The Strange Folk Festival is primarily funded by the City of O'Fallon and vendor fees. However, in an effort to expand our advertising and promotions we are now offering sponsorship packages. Information about packages is available on our website (www.strangefolkfestival.com), or by contacting festival chairman, Autumn Wiggins at 618.409.5005. We are also seeking local grub to feed the masses and encourage independent restaurants or bakeries in the St. Louis and Metro East area that are interested in participating to contact us.
We are lining up some amazing projects and activities including an ATC (artist trading card) Swap, a limited edition zine containing vendor contributed projects and commentary, tote bag give-aways, and much more! Our website (www.strangefolkfestival.com), will contain the latest information leading up to the festival and includes message boards, the organizer's blog, and a slide show of last year's event.
For more information about the event, call Event Chairman Autumn Wiggins at (618) 409-5005 or the O’Fallon Parks Department at 624-0139.
