July is National Recreation & Parks Month - Free Swim on July 13th

NEWS FROM O’FALLON CITY HALL
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July is National Recreation and Parks Month

O’Fallon, Illinois – July 3, 2007 – Mayor Gary L. Graham and the City Council have issued a Proclamation declaring the month of July as Recreation and Parks Month.  The Proclamation further extends appreciation to O’Fallon’s Parks and Recreation Department and our numerous volunteers for the work they accomplish to ensure that our parks are safe and accessible for all citizens to enjoy.

Parks and Recreation agencies touch the lives of individuals, families, groups, and the entire community, positively impacting the community’s social, economic, health, and environmental quality.  In recognition of the important services these agencies provide, the National Park and Recreation Association has designated July as Parks and Recreation Month.

“In celebration of Parks and Recreation Month, I encourage O’Fallon residents take advantage of all the amenities that our great parks offer.  We have everything from walking/biking trails at Rock Springs Park and St. Ellen Mine Park to swimming, tennis and baseball at Community Park.  There is a little something for everyone to enjoy”, said Mayor Graham.

As part of this year’s celebration, the City of O’Fallon and the Village of Shiloh are planning activities to help keep the community active and involved.  A “FREE” Swim for both O’Fallon and Shiloh residents will be held at Memorial Pool (located at Community Park, 401 E. Fifth Street) on Friday, July 13th from 6:30-9 p.m.  Everyone is also invited to attend the Grand Opening Celebration for the new Family Sports Park on Monday, July 16th from 4-7 p.m.  The new park is located at 301 Obernuefemann Road.
