O’Fallon’s Fifth Annual National Night Out Against Crime
O’Fallon, Illinois – July 18, 2007 -- Mayor Gary L. Graham and the City Council will issue a Proclamation declaring Tuesday August 7, 2007 as National Night Out Against Crime in O’Fallon at their August 6th City Council Meeting. “This program is a wonderful way for residents to get out and meet their neighbors, and at the same time, assist us in keeping O’Fallon a safe and crime free community”, said Mayor Graham.
“The National Night Out Program is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for neighborhood watch programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit as well as police-community partnerships, and to send a message to criminals letting them know that our neighborhoods are united towards the same crime prevention goal”, said Police Chief John Betten.
O’Fallon Police, Fire, and EMS will kick start this year’s activities with an evening long “Going Away Party for Crime” on Tuesday August 7, 2007 at Community Park, 305 East Fifth Street, from 6 – 9 p.m.
Throughout the evening, free food and refreshments will be provided. The First United Methodist Church Praise Band will provide the entertainment and there will be plenty of activities for children including carnival rides, an inflatable jump room, the YMCA climbing wall, and hourly prizes. The Fire Department will have their slide pole available for children to slide down and possibly a “smokehouse” that will teach children about fire safety. In addition, both the Emergency Services and Fire Departments will have ambulances and fire trucks on display for children to explore. There will be crime prevention/child safety presentations with a child safety seat installation station available. A K-9 demonstration is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. featuring Ptl. Mike Mojzis and
his dog Bobo. Please come out and meet members of the O’Fallon Police, Fire and EMS Departments.
On Wednesday night, August 8, 2007, there will be a free pool party at O’Fallon’s Memorial Pool from 6 – 9 p.m., open to all O’Fallon school district children and residents. The pool party will conclude the National Night Out festivities. Come out and meet the Police Department’s D.A.R.E. Officer, Ptl. John R. Stover who will give away two bicycles as attendance prizes one to a boy and one to a girl. Winners must be present to win.
